Medicare protects its beneficiaries. If you do not contact the insurance companies/insurance agents, they cannot contact you. You may want to go to a free educational meeting on Medicare held locally in your area at a hospital, senior center, etc. to get an overview on Medicare, when and how to enroll onto Medicare, and what insurance selection options are available to you.
When selecting a broker/agent to work with you to identify the insurance plans that will meet your individual needs, find out: (1) how long have they been an agent for Medicare insurances; (2) what insurance plans/companies they are appointed and certified with; and (3) do they take the time to educate you regarding the various plan options available to you, identifying specific plans that meet your unique needs, clarifying what the various terminology means (i.e., supplement, etc.).
Remember, any questions you ask are valid questions. You are selecting your insurance coverage – make sure you understand plan coverages and have peace of mind with your selection.
