Medicare.gov is a great “one stop shop” to find out which plans cover all of your drugs most cost effectively. It also will give you the ability to see if you can lower your drugs either with generics or substitutes or if their is a patient assistance program for your drug. When you input your drugs (with dosage and frequency), you will be able to see when you may enter the Gap in coverage (*when you may end up paying more for your drugs, depending on your specific drugs and the plan’s coverage).
By pulling up the comparison information, you can see what your anticipated cost for drugs will be and use it as a “talking point” to discuss with your doctor(s) the possible financial implications of the drugs you are taking. I do this for each of my clients so that they don’t experience unpleasant “surprises” in what is or is not covered by the plan as well as their possible expenditure during the year.
Do your homework before you sign up – remember your selection typically is be in place for the calendar year.
