I received a call recently from a woman who is on her husband’s employer insurance. In a few months, she will be turning 65. She isn’t sure if she should activate both her Part A and Part B under Medicare and select a Medicare insurance option.
When we meet, we will review/compare the coverage and costs of her remaining on her husband’s employer insurance vs. the coverage and costs of her moving fully onto Medicare and one of the Medicare insurance options offered (i.e., Medicare supplement and stand-alone drug plan /or/ Medicare Advantage plan).
Everyone’s needs differ. There is no blanket answer. The important thing is to evaluate options based on your own medical needs and financial/budgetary limitations, not on the choices made by friends or relatives based, hopefully, on their needs/limitations.
