Always review your options so that you have peace of mind regarding your choice of medical and drug insurance coverage. In the case of a recent client of mine, she can stay on her husband’s employer plan until he turns 65. The benefits and costs associated with that plan not only fulfill her medical and drug needs (and the drug plan provides the credible drug coverage required by Medicare), but it is less costly.
When her husband is about to turn 65, they will come back to meet with me. Because they will be loosing their employer plan coverage when her husband becomes 65, they will both have a special election period under Medicare to select the Medicare insurance options that best fit their specific needs at that time.
